Science

Science is taught as a discrete subject - covering various aspects of biology, chemisty and physics.  Our overviews for science ensure that knowledge and working scientifically skills are built upon progressively each year.  We use ‘WhiteRose Science’ as a scheme to support our science teaching, please see our science curriculum overviews for more information.

Primary Science Quality Mark

We are delighted to announce that the school been awarded the Primary Science Quality Mark which celebrates the school’s commitment to excellence in science teaching and learning.

Science at St John's

Over the first term, across Reception, Year 1 and Year 3, our Scientists have been looking at our bodies. Reception and Year 1 focused on the 5 senses of touch, taste, smell, hearing and sight. As part of this learning our Year 1s had a fantastic time tasting foods and describing the main types of flavour we can experience.
Year 3 have been looking deeper into the human skeleton and how we use our joints to move; finishing their learning by recreating a moving skeleton!

Annual STEM Fair at St John's

St John’s, you were amazing during National Science Week 2024! Well done to everyone who participated in our STEM Fayre! The turn out was incredible with a huge contribution from each year group! Congratulations to you all! A special congratulations to our 1st, 2nd and 3rd place holders in EYFS and KS1 and also KS2.

National Science Week

During National Science Week we were visited by Forensic Frank. Frank helped us to look at chemical reactions and showed us some fun and interesting experiments that combine solids, liquids and gases to create amazing things! We made balloons blow up on their own, lids pop off pots, change the colour of cabbage water and many more! Thanks for your visit Forensic Frank!
