Admissions

We know that choosing a school for your child is one of the most important decisions you make as parents.

To provide an opportunity to learn more about our school and our ethos, we invite you to visit the school to see what we can offer.

In addition to a full curriculum, we can offer:

Dedicated teaching rooms for cookery, music and pottery,

  • Forest School sessions,
  • Spacious playing fields and playgrounds with age-appropriate activity areas,
  • Outdoor classroom,
  • Extra-curricular clubs - there is usually a range of options to choose from including sports, cookery, arts, and choir,
  • Breakfast Club operating from 7.30am which includes a selection of food and various activities,
  • Links with St. John’s Church,
  • Class trips and optional residential educational visits for Years Four and Six.

Induction Process for Reception Starters

We understand that starting school can be a big step for both the child and the parents and St. John’s strive to help the children and parents with this transition and minimise any worries or concerns.

Prior to starting, we arrange a Parents’ Information Evening and children are invited to a ‘Teddy Bear’s Picnic’ and dedicated starter sessions, enabling children to familiarise themselves with the new surroundings and routine, and of course to meet their new teachers and classmates!

After the big ‘First Day at School’, children soon settle into life at school and the Early Years Team organise a wide variety of activities to help them become confident and happy at school.

Application Process

Children join our Reception Class in the September at the start of the academic year in which they become five years old.  For these starters, the admissions process is managed by Bath & North East Somerset Council (www.bathnes.gov.uk)

If you moving to the area and would like your child to join the appropriate year group, then an In-Year Transfer application may be made direct to the school.

For all potential parents and pupils, we would encourage you to visit our school in advance of an application.
